Mike helps send out winter warmth packs

November 26, 2003

I was pleased to be able to highlight the pack of information that Age Concern and Portsmouth Social Services are sending out to older people on how they can keep warm this winter.

For many older people managing on low incomes the winter brings huge problems. They are concerned about how to keep their homes warm at the same time as maanging all of the other expensess and many of them have completely insufficient heating in their homes.

'Flu is a particular problem and all older people are advised to take advantage of free 'flu jabs. Easting the correct food, wearing the right clothes and keeping active are all very important and the pack contains advice and information about this.

Older people will also be provided with information about how to keep their homes warm, how to obtain grants to enable them to install new heating and insulation and how to get help with heating bills.
