MP welcomes âfair taxâ plans
Mike Hancock, MP (Lib Dem - Portsmouth South) has welcomed plans outlined today by Lib Dem leader, Nick Clegg for fairer taxes. The plans will cut income tax for the average tax-payer by £700 a year. It will be paid for by a "mansion tax" on homes worth over £2million and a crackdown on the estimated £40 billion in tax loopholes that big companies and very wealth individuals use to avoid tax. They also want a tax on polluters.
Mike Hancock said: "The Chancellor should introduce the plans in the forthcoming Pre-Budget Report. As if people knew that their tax bills would be cut by £700 a year would be a real fillip to the economy ahead of Christmas and improve consumer confidence. And this is vital if we are to make sustained progress out of the recession."
