Hancock Urges Government to bring in Tighter Controls on the Buying of Scrap Metal
Following the desecration of the Civilian War Memorial in Kingston Cemetery last week, Mike Hancock has tabled a Parliamentary Motion to bring this extremely important issue to the attention of Parliamentarians and to encourage a change in the current legislation.
Mike said, "This is an issue which has not had nearly as much attention as it deserves. The Government need a comprehensive strategy to deal with this problem. What happened last week in Portsmouth was sickening and shows the length some people will go to make quick cash, and it is up to us to bring in responsible regulations to fully address this issue."
The motion denounces the recent vandalism of the War Memorial and encourages the Government to introduce regulations for the buying of scrap metal, such as making it a requirement for sellers to provide verified identification, for proper records of all transactions to be kept, and to make it illegal for cash payments to be made in exchange for scrap metal.
