Big Lottery Fund Grants in Portsmouth South
It was announced last week that no less than four organisations in Mike's constituency had been granted Big Lottery Funds to expand and develop the services they offer. These were Express FM, Cottage Grove Primary School, Pompey Sports and Education Foundation, and the Portsmouth branch of HOPE.
On hearing the news Mike was elated, "I am delighted that this initiative has continued to help fund these extremely important organisations throughout Portsmouth and I look forward to seeing these investments pay off for the benefit of Portsmouth residents."
The investment in Express FM is being used to train young people in journalistic skills to enable them to produce a multi media magazine. This is aimed at improving communication skills and improving their aspirations. Funds at Cottage Grove are being directed to offer a physical activity project outside of school hours for children aged 9-11. Pompey Sports and Education Foundation will use the funding to provide sporting activities and leadership qualifications for young people. While the grant at HOPE will enable it to expand its existing service to offer hot food as well as nutritionally balanced dried food. HOPE will join forces with a recycling company to collect furniture and clothing to help raise finance. The group will also run assemblies in schools to promote poverty awareness. Finance workshops will be held to educate people in financial awareness to break the poverty cycle.
