Mike Hancock named as region’s most active backbench MP by independent news organisation

Portsmouth South MP, Mike Hancock (Liberal Democrat) has been named as the region’s most active backbench MP in Parliament and the second most active in the country during 2004 so far.

The index is calculated by the DeHavilland Information Services which supplies the UK's leading specialist political monitoring and newswire service PublicAffairsBriefing. It takes in account Parliamentary contributions made by MPs such as speeches, contributions to debates, questions asked and Parliamentary motions supported.

Mike Hancock made 757 such contributions in the first quarter of 2004 and 767 in the second quarter of 2004 – a total of 1524.
