MP welcomes Post Office Branch

01/06/2006

Mike Hancock, MP (Lib Dem – Portsmouth South) has welcomed news that there will continue to be a sub-post office in the Queen Street area. The Co-op has confirmed that it will be opening a post office in its shop at 22, The Hard to take over from the one at 1/3, Queen Street which is closing.

Following the news of the closure at Queen Street, Mike Hancock had written to the Post Office and the Government, the sole shareholders in the Post Office, asking them to make strenuous efforts to find a new location nearby for the new branch.

Mike said: “It is good news that there will continue to be a post office in this area. Obviously the re-location will inconvenience some but many people in this area rely on having a post office near to them so I am pleased that a new location has been able to be found and the Co-op is to be congratulated on installing a new branch in its shop.”
