Completion of the Upgrade to Portsmouth Railway - Autumn 2007

November 2007

I have had the following letter from David Pape, Route Director, Network Rail about the upgrade to Portsmouth Railway

Dear Mike

Further to my previous contact earlier this year. I am writing to let you know about the completion of our project to upgrade the railway in your area.

This £100 million project has involved a major overhaul of signalling and track equipment along a 50 mile section of the network, from Portsmouth to Petersfield and Bedhampton to Portchester.

Network Rail has previously apologised for the delay in the completion of this work and any delay to passengers, and we are pleased now to have completed this final stage of work.

Now that we have completed the final commissioning stage, we are satisfied that we have the infrastructure in place to offer passengers a smoother, more reliable journey. For the future, the infrastructure will be more flexible, enabling us to better fit services to the needs of passengers and the growing economy in the south of England.

Yours sincerely

David Pape

Route Director
