Veterans Day

The Minister for Veterans has written to me to say that the Government will be launching a nationwide Veterans Day on 27 June and to confirm that they will be making that day.

The minister says that it will be an opportunity each year to thank veterans for their contribution to our life in the UK today.

An inaugural even will be held in central London to mark the occasion. This will be linked with commemorations to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the inception of the Victoria Cross and the 50th anniversary of the Victoria Cross/George Cross Association.

The minister also says that he is keen that every year, Veterans Day should be a genuinely UK-wide occasion and local communities throughout the UK will be encouraged to arrange their own events.
